On 19 June 2024, H.E. Giovanni Miceli presented his Letters of Credence as non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of Armenia, to H.E. Vaghan Khachaturyan, President of the Republic of Armenia. President Khachaturyan welcomed H.E. Miceli as the new non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of Armenia. The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan, the Armenian capital.
After the ceremony, a brief yet engaging meeting took place between H.E. President Khachaturyan and Ambassador Miceli. H.E. President Khachaturyan expressed confidence that the appointment of Ambassador Miceli will improve the excellent bilateral relations existing between Armenia and Malta. Ambassador Miceli assured that he would do his best to deepen the longstanding relations between both countries. At the height of the meeting, President Khacaturyan and Ambassador Miceli discussed on the potential for stronger bilateral and multilateral collaboration between Yerevan and Valletta in wide-ranging fields. The two sides also touched on the deeper ties between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia.
The Presentation of Letters of Credence of H.E. Giovanni Miceli was preceded by bilateral meetings held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia a day earlier, where Ambassador Miceli presented his Copies d’Usage to H.E. Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. A follow-up bilateral meeting was then held, with both sides recalling the excellent relations between Malta and Armenia, and also discussed on further prospects for bilateral collaboration between Valletta and Yerevan. Earlier to this meeting, H.E. Miceli held a meeting with H.E. Samvel Mkrtchyan, Head of European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, where the Maltese and Armenian delegations discussed avenues for further cooperation between the two countries.
The Presentation of Letters of Credence, as well as Copies d’Usage of H.E. Giovanni Miceli as Malta’s Ambassador to Armenia were complemented with other meetings, including with the Diplomatic School of the Republic of Armenia – with discussions focused on enhancing Maltese-Armenian cooperation in the field of education – as well as with the European Union Delegation to Armenia, where developments on the EU-Armenia partnership were brought to attention.
