On 7th June 2022, H.E. Anthony Licari presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador of Malta to Albania to H.E. Albania, President of the Republic of Albania.
President Meta opened by praising the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Malta and Albania and reiterated that there is greater potential in enhancing these relations namely in areas such as foreign investment, infrastructure, and education.
President Meta also made reference to Archbishop George Frendo and praised his social contributions to Albania, while also praising Malta’s assistance and contributions to Albania. President Meta emphasized education as the issue that is most important for Albania and asked Ambassador Licari for help in promoting greater education cooperation between Malta and Albania, namely, to establish contacts between the Universities of Malta and Tirana.
President Meta also asked about the possibility of cooperation in establishing direct flights between Malta and Albania. Ambassador Cici further elaborated by suggesting an invitation for a meeting with the Rector of the University of Tirana and cooperation with MEDAC and IMLI. Ambassador Licari stated that he will work on the requests from the Albanian side and pledged to work to further enhance and strengthen the bilateral relations between Malta and Albania.
During his stay in Albania, Ambassador Licari held meetings with the Director-General International Organizations at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, H.E. Sokol Gjoka; Director-General Political at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sokol Dedja; Vice Minister at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Megi Fino; and, Mr. Hubert Perr, Head of Cooperation and Chargè d’Affaires a.i. and Mr. Jean-Baptiste Le Bras, Deputy Head of Political Section, at the Delegation of the European Union to Albania (who were in place of the current Chargè d’Affaires Mr. Alexis Hupin).
